What happens to your heart when you drink energy drinks every day?

Caffeine is beneficial for the mind and body, and it can improve the mental alertness, it can relieve headaches and it can even treat asthma and diabetes.

But, if it is combined with artificial stimulants and sweeteners, it can become a strong toxin, which can damage our cardiovascular system and in some cases, it can even lead to heart attacks.

Such is the case with Cory Terry, a 33-year-old father, who died from a heart attack, as a result of regular consumption of Red Bull, the popular energy drink.

Patricia Terry, his mother, claims that he was an active person, that did not smoke, and he drank this beverage every day. According to the findings in a scientific study, Red Bull and energy drinks that are similar to it, cause serious damage to the individuals that are suffering from cardiovascular conditions, and it can also cause numerous side-effects on people that are perfectly healthy.

A trial that involved 15 healthy participants, who received 2 500ml. cans of an unidentified energy drink, which was ingredients wise the same as Red Bull. They had to drink this beverage every day, for 7 days. Just hours after the first consummation of the energy drink, the blood pressure of the participants was elevated by eight percent, and by the end of the test, it was elevated by ten percent.

The heart rates of the participants of the trial were also elevated by eight percent after the first day, and by the end of the trial, it reached 11 percent.

These factors are connected to a higher risk of a heart attack because the elevated blood pressure will cause damage to the arteries, which can lead to a stroke and blood clots. High heart rates are also linked to an increased risk of heart attacks.

Red Bull contains lots of sugar and carbonation, taurine and caffeine as stimulants, and a number of B-group vitamins. The worrying thing is that there is very little research done on the combination of these ingredients, and the little studies that have been done on this matter, show that it is a truly dangerous combination which can damage our health.

There was a study that involved 13 participants, people which were experienced in endurance training, and they had to perform exhausting exercises 3 times a day. Before their exercises, they were given Red Bull, a beverage that is similar to Red Bull but without taurine, and a placebo drink that contained no stimulants.

The findings of the study showed that the one drink that affected the amount of blood that is pumped in and out of their heart, was Red Bull. This means that when isolated, the ingredients of the Red Bull might not be harmful, the combination of all these ingredients is something that can truly damage our health, and the most affected organ of all is our heart.
