Things that you need to stop doing in the mornings, on an empty stomach


Breakfast is widely regarded as the most important meal of the day, because of the fact that it jump-starts our metabolism and raises our energy levels up, so we can go through the day without feeling tired.

Experts believe that doing some things on an empty stomach can put our overall health in danger. There are some things that you need to avoid doing on an empty stomach in the mornings after you wake up. Some of them are:

  1. Drinking tea and coffee

Many of us believe that tea or coffee should be the first things that we need to put in our system after waking up. But, it is best if we stop doing this, because it can lead to heartburn or acid reflux, which can cause damage to our intestinal lining. You need to drink a glass of water first.

  1. Drinking alcohol

Alcohol is bad on its own, but drinking it on an empty stomach can lead to absorption of the alcohol directly into your bloodstream. This can widen your arteries and it can temporarily lower your blood pressure. When there is a high concentration of alcohol in your blood, it will increase the loss of control that your mind has over your body.

  1. Taking painkillers or NSAIDs

Both of these pills are not safe to be taken on an empty stomach because they can cause gastric bleeding or it can lead to other problems.

  1. Citrus fruits

Eating citrus fruits like lemons or oranges is very beneficial for our overall health, but they should never be ingested on an empty stomach. The reason for that is because they will turn your pH levels to acidic, and when you have an acidic environment in the body, it essentially opens the door to other health problems.

  1. Workouts

Working out in the mornings when your energy levels are low because you have skipped the breakfast, will significantly limit your performance. That is the reason why it is best to exercise later in the day and at least a couple of hours after eating your meal.

  1. Labor

If you are working on an empty stomach will drastically reduce your energy levels, and it will deplete the nutrients that your body needs so it can work properly. You need to start with your work only after you have had your breakfast.

  1. Grocery shopping

All of us love shopping, but going out on an empty stomach will impact on your judgment, and in these situations, you will buy high-calorie foods. Make sure that you eat before going to the market.

  1. Exercising

When you exercise, your body will use glycogen, which comes from the food that you are eating and it should never be done in the mornings when you are hungry. If the glycogen levels in your system are low, the body will end up burning your muscles, which will lead to storing more fat.
