The right position to sleep for your back pain

Most of us mind the position that we are in when we are awake, but that is certainly not the case when we are asleep.

We spend 8 hours a day sleeping, so it is only logical that the sleeping posture is very important to our overall health. If you are a person that is dealing with back problems, then the wrong sleeping position will only make the issue worse.

The wrong sleeping position will put a strain on your back, and while you may not be feeling it right away, you will end up in the morning with a sore back muscles. For the people that are not having any back issues, having a wrong sleeping posture will increase the risk of developing such issues.

So, what do you need to do?

A good mattress

Mattresses are a type of product that you should never save money on, because when it comes to them, the quality is the most important thing. There are inexpensive varieties, which will cause you problems because they are uncomfortable and lumpy.

The best option for people that are suffering from back problems, are definitely foam mattresses. Also, you can opt for spring mattresses, as long as they are of top-notch quality.

The materials however, are not the most important thing when you are buying a mattress, you should also consider the dimensions. You need to choose one which you will be able to stretch your arms and legs on.

In case you are sleeping with your partner, make sure that the mattress is big enough to accommodate both of you.

Pillow choices

People believe that pillows cause back pain, but that is not always the case. If you are sleeping on a pillow which is the right height, you will not feel any back pain, while pillows that are fluffy and look very comfortable, can cause the most damage.

You need to get pillows that are allowing your head to be on the same level as your body. Also, make sure that you regularly change your pillows, in order to avoid sleeping on lumpy, misshapen and old pillow.

Best sleeping posture

When you buy the best “sleeping gear”, you need to make sure to align your body right. The best sleeping posture is the one where you are lying on your back.

If you made the right choices when you were purchasing the mattress and the pillow, then you should no longer feel back pain. In case you feel some light pressure, you can place small cushions under the back of your knees.

This method will support your body’s natural form. What is more, you need to lose the habit where you sleep on your stomach. This will twist your neck in a way that is unnatural, and it will put some unwanted pressure on your muscles.

Also, make sure that you don’t curve into a ball, because that will make your muscles more sore in the morning.
