People that are suffering from high cholesterol levels, are often prescribed with statins, drugs that can lead to multiple adverse effects like muscle pain, confusion, digestive problems, memory loss and liver damage.
Because of this, researchers found a more natural and much safer way to lower cholesterol levels. 10 women and men received a meal that contained 0, 1, 4, or 8 Brazil nuts, and just one serving of this meal improved the cholesterol levels in the participants. After just nine hours, their levels of cholesterol were significantly reduced.
After 30 days, the researchers re-examined the participants and they found out that their cholesterol levels were still lower, a month after the consumption of just one serving of Brazil nuts. It was also found out that four nuts worked better than eight nuts in lowering bad cholesterol and boosting the levels of good cholesterol. This means that only 4 Brazil nuts are enough to improve the HDL and LDL levels for more than 30 days!
Brazil nuts are packed with selenium, which means that four nuts a day is too much, but just 4 of them in 30 days is the adequate dosage to regulate the levels of cholesterol much more effectively than statins.
