When our vision is becoming cloudy, it means that we have a condition that is called a cataract, and this condition will impact our vision. Cataracts that appear are connected with aging.
Cataracts will, most of the time appear in elderly people. Many researchers suggest that as much as 90 percent of the U.S. citizens that are over the age of 80, have a cataract, or have done a surgery in order to remove it. This issue can appear in one or both eyes, and it is important to know that cataract cannot spread from one eye to the other.
What causes the development of cataracts?
The eye lens is located behind the iris, and it works in a similar way like a camera lens. It is responsible for centering the light in different directions, directly to the retina, which allows the picture to be recorded.
The lens will adjust according to the focus of the eye, which will allow us to see things clearly from close ranges or from far away. The eye lens is made of water and protein, and the protein is placed in a very specific way, which makes the lens clear all the time, allowing the light to pass through it. But, the protein will clump together as time passes by, and it will stick to a single place, which will form a cloud in the lens, which leads to blurry and cloudy vision.
As the time passes, this cloud will only get bigger, and it will blur the vision even more. Cataract can appear due to numerous reasons, like smoking and diabetes.
