Natural Remedies to Treat Heel Pain

Heel pain is a common foot condition which can be very unpleasant. 

It can be caused by inflammation in the bottom of the foot, calcaneal spur, tarsal tunnel syndrome, or by over-use repetitive stress. 

Natural remedies can help you a lot when it comes to treating heel pain. But if you continue feeling the pain, you should consult your doctor to treat this condition properly. 

Natural remedies to heal heel and treat foot pain

First of all, your feet provide balance and support your body, so they need rest. If your job requires standing on your feet for several hours, relaxing is the primary thing you should do. Stretches can be very helpful too. Do stretches in the morning and during the day if possible. Stretching is an excellent exercise which can reduce different types of pain. 

Here’s a funny solution to heel pain caused by calcaneal spur. This type of pain is very sharp and felt in the middle of the sole. Just slam your heel in the ground few times a day. But, make sure you slam your heel slowly and carefully.

You can also press your foot on a tennis ball and move your foot slowly. Note that if you notice that your sole hurts more, you need to stop. 


Also, massage the painful area with ice to reduce the pain. But make sure you don’t apply the ice directly on your skin. Wrap it up in a napkin first. This treatment has a cooling effect which relieves the pain. Do this treatment a couple of times a day for 10 to 15 minutes. 


Potato compress can help with unbearable pain. First, wash one potato. Then, peel it. After that, grate it and put it in a gauze. Apply the gauze on the painful foot. Secure it nicely by wrapping a plastic bag over it. Then, put on your socks. Repeat the treatment for 7 to 10 days. 

Salt and honey 

Mix salt and honey in equal amounts. Then, apply the mixture on the painful area. Wrap the area with a plastic bag. Put on socks and leave the mixture to act overnight. You’ll feel much relaxed the next morning. 


Drink ginger tea two times a day or grate some ginger and apply it on the painful foot. The combination of crushed hot peppers and olive oil can also relieve the pain. 

Extra tips: Avoid wearing tight shoes and walk barefoot every time you have the opportunity.
