Natural Remedies to Get Rid of Bed Bugs and Keep the Infestation From Spreading

Bed bugs are parasitic insects that grow up to 5 mm long.

These bugs feed on human blood but they can survive up to a year without feeding. Cracks, mattress seams, sheets, furniture, electrical outlet plates, and picture frames are the places where bed bugs can be found and they are most active at night. They can also be found in hotels, so you can bring them home from your travels.

Getting rid of them can be a real challenge, but there are a few tricks you can do to eliminate them for good.

First, you should clean every corner of your house, wash your curtains, clothing, and sheets, vacuum your house, and throw the garbage regularly.

Tea tree oil spray

Tea tree oil is a natural insecticide. Mix 2 teaspoons of tea tree oil with 50 ml of water. Then, pour the mixture into a spray bottle. Shake the bottle before use and spray this mixture where you usually see the bugs. You can use this spray every day until the bed bugs are completely gone.

Clove oil

Clove oil is an effective natural solution in repelling insects. Clove oil has acidic pH which prevents bed bug infestation. Combine 1 teaspoon of clove essential oil and one cup of water. Transfer the mixture to a spray bottle. Use the spray when necessary.

Lavender oil

Bed bugs can’t stand the smell of lavender and lavender oil prevents bed bug infestation. This oil has cytotoxic effects which destroy the parasites almost instantly. All you have to do is mix 10-15 drops of lavender oil with 50 ml of water. Then, transfer the mixture in a spray bottle. Make sure you shake the bottle well before you use it. Spray this natural disinfectant all around your house.

Thyme

Thyme leaves have a strong smell which keeps the bed bugs and other insects away from your home. All you have to do is tie a thyme stick in a cotton cloth and burn it wherever you have noticed bed bugs. There is another option – you can use thyme leaves. Put them in small net bags and place them in the areas you want to disinfect. Put new ones every three days. Repeat this method for a month.

Bean leaves

Bean leaves are one of the most effective solutions when it comes to eliminating bed bugs. Just place some kidney bean leaves around the house and under your mattress too. Keep them like that for a few days and then replace them with new ones. Kidney bean leaves trap bed bugs, so once they are trapped throw the leaves away.

Eucalyptus oil

Eucalyptus oil is one of the most effective natural insect repellents. Combine 30 drops of eucalyptus essential oil, 2 ounces of water, and a few drops of vodka. Pour this mixture into a spray bottle. Shake the bottle well before use and spray it around the corners of your house. Repeat this technique on every 4 hours.

Orange essential oil

Orange essential oil is one of the best essential oils to repel bed bugs and other insects. Eliminate them naturally by making a natural solution which consists of 2 ounces of orange essential oil, 4 liters of water, 1-ounce molasses and one cup of compost tea. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle. Shake the bottle spray before use. Then, use it to spray the whole house.
