When it comes to food, people usually select the best looking or the best smelling or tasting food for their table. Very often we don’t even have the time to think about what we eat and how it was made, or what it was made of. So, hard to admit, but we DO eat junk food more than we should.
Eating organic or natural foods doesn’t mean that we have to give up meat or anything else we like eating. It’s just the best choice of products for satisfying our hunger.
When talking about natural foods it’s hard to make a clear rule about what they represent. Many countries have differences in definition about this kind of food. In the States, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) defines natural foods as “nothing artificial or synthetic (including colors regardless of source) is included in, or has been added to, the product that would not normally be expected to be there.” And all the products that are labeled as “natural” by FDA are expected not to be improved in any way by “human touch”.
But when it comes to eating organic food it is actually very simple. Organic food is every kind of food that is produced without using pesticides, chemicals, preservatives, antibiotics or genetically improved or modified organisms.
There is a wide spectrum of benefits when producing and using organic food. First of all, eating organic food gives you the rare chances to fight allergies, because their antioxidants numbers are higher than the food produced differently. Also, many nutrients, like Omega-3, proteins and minerals are quite higher than in the not organic food. Organic food is always fresher and tastes better. Then, organic farming helps reducing the air and soil pollution, which is good not only for the animals around the farm, but also for the people.
Try to eat organic food, and keep searching for the label “natural” in stores. You won’t regret it.
