If your kidney is in danger, your body will give you these 6 signs!

The kidneys are one of the most important organs in our body. They filter 120-150 quarts of blood every day and are located just below the ribs.

In order to prevent a buildup of waste in the body and to keep the blood safe, we need to have healthy kidneys. They keep the levels of electrolytes stable, produce red blood cells, regulate the blood pressure and help our bones stay healthy and strong.

In cases where there is a kidney damage, the health of the affected person can be at grave danger. For that, we need to learn how to recognize the symptoms and signs of kidney damage.

Upper back pain

This is one of the most common symptoms of damaged kidneys. This pain is manifested as a one sided pain in the upper back and can be accompanied by urinary changes and in some cases – fever. If you have severe pain or spasms, you could have kidney stones or a kidney infection.

Skin rash

The reason why kidney failure happens, is because of the waste that builds up in your body. It can cause itchy skin and rashes. If the kidneys cannot perform their basic function (to filter our blood), it will lead to our skin looking unhealthy, irritated and dry. Lotions and creams can ease this situation, but not when the skin problem is caused by a problem with the kidneys. In that case, it is best to seek an expert’s opinion.

If there is a swell and it is there without any obvious reason, keep in mind that it may be caused by a kidney damage. This can happen because the kidneys cannot remove the waste buildup, which in turn leads to swelling in your face, ankles, legs, feet and hands.

Metallic taste in the mouth

The deposits of waste that we have in our blood can lead to a changed taste in the mouth and bad breath. In a case of kidney damage, you may have poor appetite and you can also experience a change in the taste of certain foods.

When the kidneys are at full health and operate at a full capacity, they produce erythropoietin (EPO). This is a hormone that produces the much needed red blood cells. The red blood cells supply the brain with oxygen. If their numbers are lowered, a person can feel fatigued and can also experience muscle damage. Usually, these signs are accompanied with anemia.

Shortness of breath

If you suffer from kidney damage, your body is starved of oxygen. The lack of oxygen in the body can lead to shortness of breath. This is caused by the accumulation of waste products and fluids in the lungs.

The most obvious signs of kidney damage:

  • Pale color of the urine. The urine is also frequent and in large amounts
  • Foamy urine
  • Having troubles urinating
  • Less frequent urinating
  • Dark urine
  • Urge to urinate during the night
  • Pressure during urination
