Find out how to prepare healthy, homemade marshmallows that don’t contain sugar!

Marshmallows have been a popular dessert for quite some time now, but they are not very healthy because of the fact that they contain high amounts of sugar.

One normal-sized marshmallow contains four grams of added sugars, and if we are speaking honestly, then no one can eat just one of them and then stop. This means that one cup of mini marshmallows contains 29 grams of sugar, which is 10 grams more than the recommended daily intake and over 400 empty calories.

When you consume large amounts of sugar, you can raise the intake of calories and you can cause yourself tons of health problems, particularly issues that are related to weight.

What is more, foods that contain high amounts of sugar, usually do not contain other healthy nutrients. Also, if you eat sweet foods, they will reduce your appetite and they will also leave less room for the foods that actually contain some health benefits, like fruits and vegetables.

It has been shown that the consumption of sugar is often times associated with the appearance of some health issues that can be dangerous in the long-run, like:

  • Resistance to insulin and diabetes
  • Heart problems
  • Multiple types of cancer, like pancreatic cancer
  • Increased levels of cholesterol
  • Food addiction
  • Teeth problems

Because of that, we are going to show you how to prepare your own marshmallows, that don’t contain bad sugars in them. They can be prepared in a combination of chocolate or coconut, depending on your personal taste.


  • Half a teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Half a cup of honey
  • One and a half tablespoon of gelatin
  • Half a cup of cold water
  • 1/8 teaspoon of salt

How to prepare it:

You need to take a loaf pan and then grease it a little bit. Then place the parchment paper inside of the pan and then grease it again. Then, put one-quarter of the cup of water in a separate bowl and then add the gelatin and leave it to soften.

Add the rest of the water, the salt, and the honey in a separate pot and place in on your stove on medium heat. Then the mixture needs to reach 240 degrees, and you can use a sweet thermometer in order to measure the temperature correctly. Usually, it takes a period of 7 to 8 minutes to reach this temperature.

After you reach the needed temperature, you need to remove the pot from the heat and then use a hand mixer in order to combine the gelatin and the mixture that is already hot. Mix them together by pouring the hot mixture on top of the gelatin.

When you are done with all of this, add the vanilla and then start beating the mixture for 12 to 15 minutes on high speed. When you get a thick mixture, then stop. At the end, scrape it into the ready loaf pan and store it without covering it for 4 to 12 hours. It is best to leave the mixture overnight so that it can dry. Then, cut it into squares and you can start eating it.
