Don’t Use Ginger If You Have Any of These Conditions!

Ginger is known for its numerous health benefits.

This powerful herb is used as a natural remedy to treat many health conditions. It helps with digestive disorders and improves digestion. Also, it is one of the most effective methods to cleanse your body from toxins and waste.

But, there are cases when ginger can cause certain side effects as well. Although ginger is a rich source of bioactive compounds and nutrients, it should be avoided if you have any of the following conditions:

1. Underweight 

Ginger is one of the healthiest high-fiber foods. Its high concentration of dietary fiber improves the pH levels in the stomach and promotes the production of digestive enzymes. Also, it speeds up the process of burning calories and suppresses your appetite, which eventually leads up to weight loss. You can also feel other complications such as muscle weakness, hair loss, and menstrual irregularities.

2. Blood disorders 

Ginger root stimulates blood circulation. Therefore, it is used to treat peripheral artery disease, obesity, Raynaud’s disease, but it is never used to treat hemophilia, a condition when the ability of the blood to clot is severely reduced. In this case, ginger might even worsen this bleeding disorder, by neutralizing the effects of the drugs prescribed for treating it.

3. Pregnancy 

As it was mentioned previously, ginger boosts digestion and strengthens your muscles. But, its stimulants which help digestion, can cause premature contractions and labor in pregnant women. Even though it might reduce morning sickness, this group of women are not allowed to consume it. It is strictly forbidden during the last trimester. Also, ginger inhibits iron and zinc absorption, and fat-soluble vitamins.

4. Certain medications 

Avoid consuming ginger if you take diabetes or high blood pressure medications. Ginger increases blood flow and is a natural blood thinner, so it neutralizes the effects of the drugs when combined with insulin, beta-blockers, and anti-coagulants. It also lowers your blood pressure.

If you belong to any of these groups, you can substitute ginger with sweet peppers, red paprika, or cayenne pepper.
