If you ever found yourself in a yoga studio or a new age bookshop, you have probably noticed that there are some places that have a very particular smell.
The reason for that is because many of these locations practice smudging, which is a Native American tradition, that uses smoke of herbs to purify the room. In a way, it is a similar ritual to the art of burning incense.
This practice is often times associated with sage, but there are also some other herbs that you can use.

Bay leaves are used in foods and as a fragrance ingredient in lotions, soaps, detergents, perfumes, and creams.
The benefits of this herb
The leaves have been used as an analgesic, sedative, anti-inflammatory, and anticonvulsant. This is a herb that also contains anti-fungal and antibacterial properties and it can lower the blood pressure and regulate the heart rate. It is used to treat chronic stress, alter mood and treat insomnia.
When it comes to its culinary application, it can manage the levels of cholesterol and the levels of glucose in individuals that are suffering from diabetes and prevent kidney stones. If you take it in a form of tea, these leaves can prevent the spread and growth of leukemia and cancerous cells.
How to use bay leaves?
There is nothing that stops you from using this herb in cooking, just make sure that you remove the leaves before you serve the meal, because someone can choke on them.
But, if you are in a bad mood, or feeling stressed, just burn one leaf in an aluminum baking tray in your office or room and then leave it for 10 minutes. Close the windows and keep the tray away from anything that is flammable and always make sure that you don’t place the tray under a smoke detector.
When you return to your room or office, the smoke will make your muscles and mind more relaxed, and you will find it easier to focus on the task at hand.
